LELEU MENTAWAI FAQ

Q WHERE IS LELEU?

Leleu is situated on the island of Simikikang, a 5 – 10 minute boat ride from the Tua Pejat ferry dock on Sipora Island.

Q HOW DO I GET TO LELEU?

Padang is your final flight destination reached directly from the main hubs of Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur. The Mentawai fast ferry will take you from Padang to Sipora Island (3.5 hrs travel time). The ferry leaves Padang 7.am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and leaves at 10am on Sunday. The return ferry trips are on the same days. You will be required spend a night in Padang on arrival and departure due to the ferry times. We will collect you at the ferry dock and transport you to Leleu.

IMPORTANT INFO – When booking FLIGHTS from home country to PADANG. Make sure ample time is allocated for connecting flights and for VISA UPON ARRIVAL.

Q WILL I BE ASSISTED UPON ARRIVAL IN PADANG AIRPORT (code PDG)?

Our driver will meet and collect you from Padang airport and take you to your hotel. You will be collected the following morning and taken to the fast ferry. This service will be provided on your departure. This cost is to guests account.

Q TRANSPORT, HOTEL AND FERRY COSTS?

Guests book and pay for their own hotel of choice. Please see under BOOKINGS for recommended hotels in Padang.

We offer a TRAVEL ASSIST (excl hotel) that covers RETURN : airport transfer , transfer to and from the ferry , ferry tickets , board bag ( up to 15kg, excess above that is and extra cost to you) and Mentawai’s surf tax (Rr 2000 000 p/p), the cost of which will be added as an addition to your booking. Please enquire for the travel assist rate.

Q WHAT IS MENTAWAI SURF TAX?

Mentawai surf tax (Rs 2 000 000 per surfer for 14 days) was implemented by the Mentawai Regency in 2016 for projects that aid the Mentawai poeple.

Q IS A VISA REQUIRED FOR INDONESIA?

Yes. VISA UPON ARRIVAL is available for the majority of nationalities at a cost of USD 35. VISA UPON ARRIVAL allows a maximum of a 30 day stay.

A 60 day visa is available. This can only be done through your local Indonesian consulate. Passport must be valid for minimum 6 months and return ticket is required.

Q WHERE IS THE SURF AND HOW DO I FIND IT?

There are 10 breaks of various quality and level of ability, which range from 5 min to 30 min boat ride away. Each villa has its own 14ft aluminium “Tinny” and driver to get you to and from the surf. The boat is yours as is the times you choose to surf or explore. There is also a traditional wooden canoe to use for a more comfortable ride.

Q QUALITY OF WAVES?

The waves very from beginner, intermediate to waves for the hardcore barrel chargers. Telescopes is the marque wave of the area which can can get crowded but when its pumping there are waves for all.

Q I WANT TO VISIT BUT I DO NOT SURF?

The beauty of the area is the exploring one can do. The swimming alone in front of Leleu is 5*. We are fortunate to have perfect conditions out front uninhibited by shallow coral which is the case for the majority of establishments. Great snorkelling is everywhere and abundant. Swim and snorkel in the pristine gin clear mangroves. Spearfishing and fishing. Go Island and jungle exploring on the island we live on as well surrounding islands. Explore the majestical waters and visual splendor of Satan Island. Experience local Mentawai food created by the locals on Simikikang. This is just a few of the activities one can do. You have your own boat and driver to explore or just lie in a hammock and read your book all day. The choice is yours.

Q IS THERE INTERNET SIGNAL?

Yes, we have WiFi and excellent 4g signal. Internet packages are available for purchase.

Q IS THERE HOT WATER?

Villa Isha has hot water.

Villa Akash and Villa Cayha cold water only.

Q IS THERE DRINKABLE WATER AND ELECTRICITY?

Yes. We collect rain water which is filtered for drinking. Solar power provides electricity.

Leleu is completely off the grid and green living. We live on an island that has no available amenities. We are solely reliant on the sun and rainwater. We ask guests to be water savvy because of this.

Q IS THERE A/C?

Bungalow Isha and Akash are built Mentawai style to provide free air flow throughout the bungalow thus no need for AC. Inside the bed on the headboard are 2 small powerful fans on either side of the bed.

Q IS THERE MALARIA ?

There are has been no known cases of malaria on Simakakang island.

Q WHAT DOES MY BOOKING INCLUDE AND EXCLUDE?

INCLUDED:

• Boat and driver. Bungalows are serviced daily. Filtered rain water.
• Pick up and transfer from Tua pejat to Simikikang island (Leleu).
• Porter fees at Tua pejat ferry dock.

EXCLUDED:

• Beer and Soft drinks.
• Fuel for boats to guests charge (this applies to long term rentals).
• Mini mark supplies.
• Personal laundry.
• Surfboard rental.
• Fishing, spearfishing equipment.
• Mentawai surf tax (Rs 1000 000).
• Flights, hotel accommodation, airport and ferry transfers, ferry tickets and associated baggage.
